Boeing is one of the largest employers in the city and is situated on the previous spot constructed to serve the Apollo program. Various interesting buildings still remain from then, like for example the S-IVB upper stage used for the Saturn IB and Saturn V rockets. The city itself is located above a natural salt dome. Inside this salt dome was a reservoir of oil, but over the years it has depleted considerably. Right now, oil production counts for a significant portion of the local revenue. There are a total of two offshore extraction facilities left, but in time tourism has to become the main income source for the city.
